Soccer Recap 23: Loons in Leagues Cup, Necaxa TONIGHT, A Look Around Leagues Cup, and U.S. Olympic Soccer Domination

Minnesota Soccer Spot  Tuesday ,  July  30th Loons in Leagues Cup, Necaxa TONIGHT, A Look Around Leagues Cup, and U.S. Olympic Soccer Domination *Disclaimer: My takes are not thoughtful, and they are NOT based in knowledge.*   First, An  Acknowledgement I debated whether or not to cover Leagues Cup content for two reasons: The first is that I understand the want to boycott these matches. O.G. American soccer fans will be the first to tell you how important the U.S. Open Cup has been for the sport in the United States. But Don Garber likes his moola, so I understand the beef. The second one, and the obviously less important one, is my schedule. You would think not having a job would give me a lot of free time, and maybe it has & I'm just being dramatic, but now that I don't have my front desk job, I can't get paid to type it up at work. That used to be my excuse for procrastination. "I'll just do it when I get to work."  Now I have nothing to blam...

Minnesota Soccer Spot  Tuesday , July 23rd Minnesota's Wakeup Call, Back To Winning Ways, Leagues Cup, A Look Around MLS, and a U.S. Soccer Olympic Preview *Disclaimer: My takes are not thoughtful, and they are NOT based in knowledge.*   First, Another Disclaimer: My favorite thing about writing this blog is that I can change the days I post the blog without giving any warning. This is my warning (about five weeks too late). I will be completely honest: Posting these on Tuesdays gives me an extra day to procrastinate. With that being said, let's get into the madness.  Minnesota's Wakeup Call: This past Wednesday, Minnesota United took on D.C. United at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota. Going into this match, fans felt this was a must-win. The Loons hadn't won a match since June 1, and you could feel the tension starting to build among everyone involved.  Here is how both teams lined up going into the match: MNUFC Lineup D.C. United Lineup Eric Ramsay opts ...

Soccer Recap 21: Loons Break Losing Streak, ANOTHER Double-Match Week, , and A Look Around MLS

Minnesota Soccer Spot  Tuesday , July 16th Loons Break Losing Streak, ANOTHER Double-Match Week, and A Look Around MLS *Disclaimer: My takes are not thoughtful, and they are NOT based in knowledge.*   We're here for the twenty-second week of whatever this is. (Yes, I know it says "Soccer Recap 21", but real ones know there was an introduction blog a week before the season started). If you're still here, I'm unsure whether to be grateful or concerned. If this is your first time reading, get out while you still can. It's not too late! Loons Break Losing Streak This past Saturday, Minnesota United traveled to Texas to take on the Houston Dynamo. The last time these friendly foes faced each other, Houston had traveled to Allianz Field and left with all three points. For the first time in their history, the Dynamo had won a match in Minnesota. With that chip on their shoulder and a losing streak to break, The Loons hoped they could right both wrongs. They sort of...

Soccer Recap 20: The Minnesota United Rundown

Image
Minnesota Soccer Spot  Wednesday , July 10th The Minnesota United Rundown *Disclaimer: My takes are not thoughtful, and they are NOT based in knowledge.*   An  Introduction : Welcome back to the most disorganized soccer blog you’ll ever read. If you’re new, welcome. If you’re a returning reader, my apologies. But you’ll be happy to hear that this blog will be short and sweet thanks to my procrastination skills. It’s been one of those weeks—that, coupled with the fact that this team is getting genuinely depressing to write about. I’m trying to protect my peace as much as possible. In summary, this blog will be short and boring.  This past week, Minnesota United took on both the Vancouver Whitecaps and L.A. Galaxy in two, once again, poor displays. With two more losses, Minnesota’s losing streak has been extended to six, setting a new record high for the club.  MNUFC VS Vancouver Whitecaps: One week ago, Minnesota United took on the Vancouver Whitecaps...

Soccer Recap 19: Loons Losing Streak Continues, Double-Game Week Next, A Look Around MLS, and Where Does U.S. Soccer Go From Here?

Minnesota Soccer Spot  Tuesday, July 2nd Loons Losing Streak Continues, Double-Game Week Next, A Look Around MLS, and Where Does U.S. Soccer Go From Here? *Disclaimer: My takes are not thoughtful, and they are NOT based in knowledge.*   Loons Losing Streak Continues: The Loons are in hot water! This past Saturday, Minnesota United traveled to Portland, Oregon, to take on the Portland Timbers. In typical Minnesota Sports fashion, the Loons blew their two-goal lead and walked away from the match with zero points. This loss takes the Loons' losing streak to four in a row. Some corners of the Minnesota United internet are calling for Ramsay's head. Others are calling for the front office's head. What does Minnesota United need? Where do they go from here? Before I get into my thoughts, let me summarize Saturday's match. Here's how both teams lined up: MNUFC Lineup Portland Lineup For Minnesota, Eric Ramsay put forward a 4-4-2 lineup. Ideally, this lineup would give Mi...
